The huge project was part of a $2 million statewide restoration program by the NSW Government, with Bathurst Court House among four significant buildings to be restored.

Included in the extensive restoration works was the repair and replacement of stones at the base of the court house entry area.

A Department of Finance, Services and Innovation spokesperson said work will finish this week with a final inspection to also take place.

Meanwhile, the project’s restoration of the roof has been put on hold.

“Work on the roof has been suspended while the current court proceedings are underway in the building, but is expected to resume in four weeks once the hearings are completed,” the spokesperson said.

The restoration also included work on the underground stormwater drainage and an archaeological assessment of those areas.

The courthouse will be the centrepiece of the nightly illuminations during the 16-day winter festival which kicks off this Saturday.

The upgrade was funded through the Minister’s Stonework Program and through an additional government grant.
