Twenty club cyclists travelled to the championships at Nowra, with six teams featuring for Bathurst.
A 90+ masters women team that featuring Toireasa Gallagher, Laura Renshaw and Donna Scott claimed a silver medal, while a 180+ masters men that included Mark Windsor, Jim Lavis, Graham Strait and Robert Stephen also claimed a silver medal.
Windsor said it was an effort the Bathurst Cycling Club was proud of.
“We’ve always gone really well in this tournament, normally finishing in the top five,” he said.
“We came second behind Sutherland in 2014, but we slipped to eighth last year.
“It’s a good indication of where our club is at.”
St George Cycling Club finished first, overall, with Sydney Cycling Club and Sydney Uni Velo Club finishing second and third respectively.
“These clubs are big, with good history and more teams than us. They target events like this,” Windsor said.
“We’d like to beat them to be honest, but we’re proud of the achievement.
“A lot of credit has to go to Mark Simons [club president] and Ryan O’Donnell [club road coordinator] who made sure everyone was down there.
“They’ve got some great programs in place at the club.”
Windsor said the course at Nowra has been the same for many years, but still remains a tough track.
“It’s tough going out and going back. It’s a simple road, up hill on the way out and down hill on the way back,” he said.
“It’s quite a challenge because of the variety in the circuit.”
Windsor’s team – 180+ masters men team – finished in second place in a time of 59:58.62, as Manly Warringah Cycling Club finishing 47 seconds ahead in first position.
Illawarra Cycling Club finished third in a time of 1:01:14.30.
“To be quite honest, it would have been quite a challenge. They’ve [Manly] pouched a few cyclists and put in a lot of effort. They stretch us and put a lot of effort into the race,” Windsor said.
“It’s quite hard to get medals, so it was good to come away with a few.
“It’s a true team event. The time used is the third rider across the line. You really have to protect your other cyclists.”
