Thousands of skaters have taken to the ice since the start of the Bathurst Winter Festival on July 1 – and plenty have struggled to stay upright.
A spokesperson the Western NSW Local Health District said about 20 people had presented at the Bathurst emergency department in just four days to Monday with injuries likely to have come from the ice rink.
“They were all forearm or wrist injuries which look to have come from the ice rink,” the spokesperson said.
However, the ED has been able to cope with the workload within existing staffing levels.
The ice rink will remain in operation until this Sunday, July 16.
This is the third year the ice rink has been set up in the middle of town as part of the winter festival and its popularity does not seem to be declining.
