Shane Wolfgang Hynds, 43, of Hillfoot Lane, Montville in Queensland did not appear before magistrate Michael Allen, instead submitting a written plea of guilty to the court.
The court heard Hynds was pulled over by police at noon on May 15, 2017.
He recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.081 at Bathurst police station.
In a written plea submitted to the court, Hynds said he had attended an end of contract function where he had worked on emergency service helicopters for Ambulance NSW.
He said he was required to drive from Orange to Sydney and he had left what he thought was enough time for the alcohol to leave his system.
“I honestly considered the time of day I left to drive was ample,” he said.
Hynds was pulled over by police the day after the work function. Officers were doing stationary RBT duties on the Mitchell Highway when he was pulled over for a random breath test.
Hynds produced his driver’s licence and returned a positive reading. He was arrested and taken to Bathurst police station for breath analysis where he recorded a reading of 0.081.
In relation to his drinking told police had eight stubbies of beer at a work function between 5pm and 11.30pm on the Sunday evening before being pulled over the following day at midday.
Hynds was confined, fined $450 and disqualified from driving for six months with Section 225 of the Road and Transport Act to apply.
