Bathurst Young Professionals got its start in 2015 when Kenny Spring Solicitors principal Angus Edwards noticed there were limited opportunities for young people to network.
Kenny Spring’s business development assistant Amy Hewitt said the group also supports ongoing professional development.
In the early days, the Bathurst Young Professionals was funded entirely by the law firm, but it has since attracted sponsorship.
This allows events to be held quarterly, which feature guest speakers.
They cover various topics and group activities often follow to encourage people to develop professional connections with each other.
“While we have Facebook and LinkedIn, we think nothing is better than meeting people face-to-face,” Ms Hewitt said.
Bathurst Young Professionals started with 40 members and has kept growing.
The latest event, held on July 5, had to be capped at 90 people, with 15 more on the waiting list to attend.
Ms Hewitt said the group started out with mainly officer workers, but now more industries are represented.
“We want to make it a lot broader, so now Young Professionals has people from the hospital, tradies, people from council and more,” she said.
Despite having more than 100 young professionals signed up, Ms Hewitt said they are always looking for more people to get involved.
The group is designed for people between the ages of 18 and 35, however the age limit is flexible and the group is also open to those just starting their careers.
Ms Hewitt said the feedback has been really positive from members, with some finding more work from the connections they’ve formed.
“Everyone always thanks us for starting the initiative,” she said.
“They just think it is a great platform for people to meet people and there is nothing else out there like it for this age group.”
