Martin Bird Lane, is 27 kilometres west of Bathurst and runs off Ophir Road.
The problem, nearby resident Cindy Rogers says, is that nobody wants to take responsibility for the road’s maintenance.
She said the road was neglected and it had deep ruts that got worse with rain.
“In some parts I wouldn’t be game to take a four-wheel drive,” Mrs Rogers said.
An Australia Post spokesman said while committed to providing a reliable mail service, safety was paramount.
“Martin Bird Lane is on Crown Land and a portion of the road is considered unsafe for the contractor to make deliveries,” he said.
Currently, only one customer is impacted by the non-delivery order.
“We have been working with the customer and have an alternative delivery arrangement in place,” the spokesman said.
Mrs Rogers and husband Jeff have complained to Bathurst Regional Council, Bathurst MP Paul Toole and Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove about the road.
A council spokesperson said that while the road might be in the Bathurst Local Government Area it was a Crown Road, and as such not council’s responsibility.
In a letter to Mr Rogers, Mr Toole said councils “have the option of taking over these roads” and he referred the couple to the NSW Department of Industry.
A Department of Industry – Lands and Forestry spokeswoman said: “We do work with landholders to ensure access to their properties is maintained”.
“Landholders are encouraged to contact the department to discuss different options available including consent to undertake minor maintenance work,” she said.
Via an email, Sir Cosgrove’s acting deputy official secretary pointed the couple back to where they started.
“The Governor General cannot become involved in matters that are the responsibility of governments,” he said. “You may like to bring your concerns to the attention of your local elected representatives.”
