The Bathurst pair will go up against the state's best junior gymnasts after comfortably finishing inside the required top 60 overall positions at the Country Championships.
Simpson scored herself a big personal highlight at the Hunter Sports Centre by finishing first in the vault.
The Bathurst gymnast added to the stunning performance with high results in beam (fifth) and floor (sixth).
Simpson finished fourth overall among the level six competitors. In the same level of competition Nicholls was 15th overall.
Eight other Bathurst competitors were in action at the Newcastle event.
All four of the level three participants came away with silver medals.
Eve Twohill was a standout performer in the group, with her high vault score giving her a blue ribbon banding.
Both level four entrants won bronze medals while the two level five competitors performed strongly at their first major competition of the year.
“It was a great performance from all our competitors,” Aspire coach Sophie Godleman said.
“We took 10 kids from levels three to six, and it’s a huge event. There’s not just artistic gymnastics, but rhythmic and trampoline as well.
“Any club who wants to compete is able to go to the Country Championships and participate in every discipline.”
Godleman was thrilled to see both Simpson and Nicholls move on to the next stage.
“That means they’re both among the top 60 gymnasts in country NSW for their level,” she said.
“It was an amazing result for Evie … and Aimee has only moved up to level six this year, so she’s done a great job to make the top 60 and qualify.
“She missed out on some placings not because of any bad routines, but just because the standard there was so high.
“For our two level five girls it was their first major competition, and it was a really good experience for them. One of them only just missed out on qualifying for state as well.”
The State Championships take place at the Sydney Gymnastic and Aquatic Centre on August 5 and 6.
Eleven of Bathurst’s level three and four competitors will now attempt to qualify for their edition of the State Championships.
