Nighto, as he is known around town, had three serious falls in one day at his home and will go into respite care for at least three weeks.
It will cost around $1000 for the first three weeks - money the family just doesn’t have – and costs could rise if his recovery takes longer.
Brian’s son, Terry, started a Go Fund Page this week asking for help from friends.
“Yesterday he had three serious falls at home and now will be required to go into respite care,” Terry wrote on the page.
“This comes at a cost which neither of us can afford at this stage.
“I need to raise $1000 for his first three weeks at the Opal Care Centre in Kelso. I absolutely hate to ask for help but this is my only option.
“My Dad is a good guy and deserves to have the care he needs to get back on the road. Anything will help.”
In 2015, Brian Nightingale was named one of 200 Bathurst Living Legends for his service to local motorsport. A former driver himself, he raced alongside Peter Brock early in his career and called Brock a friend.
