Mariners slipped outside the top four following their loss to competition leaders APIA Leichhardt Tigers last round, and they have just four games left to recover that spot.
The Western women begin that task this weekend when they travel to face the fourth-placed Raiders.
Mariners and Raiders have shared the wins in the head-to-head this year. Western went down 1-0 in the opening clash at Proctor Park before turning the result around for a 4-2 success.
“They’re always a very competitive team, and it’s never an easy game against them,” Mariner Kristy Collingridge said.
“We played quite well and that last game against them and we took our chances there.
“We had a full squad too. We haven’t been able to get that over the past couple of weeks with uni holidays and work commitments. Hopefully we can get a strong squad together over these last couple of games.”
Mariners are on the back foot after the 1-0 loss to the Tigers, as Western struggle to string a consistent performance together.
“That’s a result that both gives us confidence but frustrates us too. We can’t seem to put two halves together. It’s usually been an ordinary half followed by a much better one,” Collingridge said.
