Scott William Burns, 23, of Rankin Street did not appear before visiting Magistrate Viney to answer the charge on July 10 and the matter was dealt with in his absence.
The court heard how on May 12, 2017 police pulled Burns car over in Vittoria Street.
Police approached and Burns was in the driver’s seat with the car’s engine still running.
When asked for his driver’s licence, he was unable to produce it. A check revealed he had never held a licence.
His roadside breath test produced a negative result but his oral fluid test produced a positive detection for methamphetamine.
Burns was arrested for a secondary oral fluid test which also returned a positive detection to methamphetamine. The remainder of the sample was sent away for analysis.
While speaking to police, Burns told officers: “I had a cone yesterday.”
He was issued with a Field Court Assistance Notice for the offence of never holding a licence. No further action will be taken in relation to the oral fluid sample until the results are received from the NSW Forensic and Analytical Service.
