The NSW Government has committed $46 million to its Connecting Country Schools program, which will see wireless connectivity upgrades made at more than 900 regional and remote schools.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole welcomed the funding, which he said would help to improve the educational opportunities afforded to thousands of students in the electorate.
“I am proud the NSW Government is supporting students in the Bathurst Electorate because they deserve to have the same internet access at school as their city counterparts,” he said.
“Across the Bathurst Local Government Area, 17 schools will have their wireless connectivity upgraded over the next four years and this is an important investment in the future of children in our region.”
The four-year program will commence at three pilot schools in NSW, Urunga Public School, Grafton High School and Whian Whian Public School.
They will road test the solution and the process of implementation before it is rolled out to other regional and remote schools.
This pilot period will finish at the end of September.
It will work in parallel to commission and schedule internet upgrades for very remote schools and work with all included schools to apply for the scheme.
Once a school has been upgraded with the solution, they will be able to apply for additional funds from an innovation fund to maximise the use of the capability within their school and their community.
