Wasps took down Nova for the second time this year in a 48-32 to keep a finals spot in their sights.
A tight Wasps defence couldn’t be broken down by Nova as the Wasps women broke a three-game losing run in style.
“We had a full squad yesterday, which made a nice change from last time we played Nova,” Wasps captain Saphai Mitai-Ngatai said.
“We had one of our players [Riane Barton] coming back after breaking a bone in her hand in three places. It was nice to have a mid court player come into the team.”
An undermanned Wasps side edged home by four points against Nova earlier this season, but with a bigger squad this time around Mana looked in control from the outset of Saturday’s game.
“Tactically we went for a more defensive structure against Nova and that worked really well for us. Nova found it hard to get through with the way that we set our defence up,” Mitai-Ngatai said.
“We tried it out at training and thought we’d give it a go in the game. It’s good because we know where we can tighten it up now.
“I thought Anna Evans was amazing for us at goal keeper, and got lots of turnovers there. Jorjana Micalos’ shooting was on fire too.”
Collegians Mystified have taken themselves to the top of the BNA A grade competition once again thanks to their 46-23 win over LJ Hooker Hawks.
Collegians can become the first team to guarantee themselves finals netball this season if they can beat Nova Pursuit this Saturday.
Bulldogs Verdelho had the opportunity to hold on to the top spot but were sent back to second after a 47-37 loss to Panthers A.
It’s the second time this year Panthers have managed to get the better of Bulldogs in A grade.
In the other upcoming matches Mana Wasps will test themselves against Panthers A and Panthers WWL will come back from the bye to play Bulldogs Verdelho.
LJ Hooker Hawks will have the bye this Saturday.
