The Bathurst woman marked her milestone birthday with friends and family on Sunday as they sang and reminisced about a life very well lived.
Mrs Abbey was born in Wellington on July 23, 1911, and has been living in Bathurst since the mid 1980s.
She married William Abbey and together they had one daughter – Elaine.
Since then, she has gone on to become a grandmother to three, great grandmother to six and great great grandmother to 14.
Mrs Abbey now lives at Opal Aged Care and on Sunday staff threw open the doors for the celebration.
Among those at the party was Mrs Abbey’s daughter Elaine Stonestreet and when asked what the secret to longevity was, she said the answer was simple.
“She doesn’t drink and doesn’t smoke and apart from that she eats anything she likes,” Mrs Stonestreet said.
She said her mother was a very gifted seamstress in her younger years.
“She made all the wedding dresses for the girls,” Mrs Stonestreet said of the women in her family.
Mrs Abbey’s great granddaughter Mel Lew was also at the family celebration.
She said many of the women in her family have lived a long life.
“It’s always been like it, I don’t know any different,” Mrs Lew said.
