On Wednesday, we presented 26 organisations with more than $50,000 in donations. The funds will be used for a variety of cultural, sporting, historical, agricultural and community projects and events that will be held throughout the year.
Transport infrastructure within our city centre is set to get a boost with the announcement of $120,000 in funding for transport facilities for the local community from the NSW Government.
The funding is part of the Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme and will benefit commuters with improvements to the taxi rank outside the busy retail centre on Howick Street near a range of medical and retail facilities.
The planned improvements will not only enhance the streetscape, but make the facilities easier and more comfortable for commuters.

Taking a stand in the fight against school bullying
THE NSW Government launched a comprehensive anti-bullying resource this week which is now available for use by students, teachers and parents. The new website co-ordinates evidence-based resources for school communities to identify bullying, and respond to bullying behaviours.
New lesson plans within the strategy have also been developed by teachers and are available as part of the roll-out for all NSW schools.
The resources have been developed to deal with bullying behaviour - either as the perpetrator or the victim - and reinforce the message that students have a right to be educated in environments with no tolerance of bullying.
From little things, big things grow
WE will celebrate National Tree Day this weekend and I urge everyone in town this Saturday to make their way to O’Keefe Park near the Eglinton Bridge to take part in activities as part of this great annual event.
Tree planting will commence at 9am and all you need to bring is a pair of covered shoes, a hat, a bottle of water and a willingness to work. A free barbecue lunch will be provided.
To date, more than 4000 native plant species have been planted to replace weeds that have been removed from the area.
So be sure to get down and help make a difference by donating some time to a very worthwhile cause. You can also enjoy a sausage sanga cooked by Bill Josh from Habitat Connect for your efforts.
Happy Tree Day!
Stronger Country Communities
I HAVE spent the past couple of weeks visiting councils within the Bathurst electorate to deliver funding information on the exciting Stronger Country Communities Fund.
I’m calling on councils, local businesses and community groups to nominate community infrastructure projects for funding under the first round of the Stronger Country Communities Fund which will see an investment of more than $4.24 million into the Bathurst electorate.
The fund will build new playgrounds and pathways, community centres, libraries and local parks for rural and regional communities.
This funding will realise projects that the community needs and wants, making them even more vibrant places to live and work.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is a once-in-a-generation investment in the facilities and services that make our towns and regional cities the best places in NSW to live and work.
