However, that day arrived on Saturday for Aspire Gymnastics 2795 when all 11 of its entrants learned they would move on to the next stage at the Sydney Level 3-4 Gala Competition.
Aspire coach Sophie Godleman was proud not only of the team’s results but also of their support for one another.
“For the level three and four girls they need to earn silver or above, which is equivalent to a red banding,” she said.
“It’s great that they were all able to do that. I’m so proud of them. A lot of the level fours haven’t competed much at all this year, so they did a really good job and I made sure I let them know that.
“The pressure can be on trying to qualify for State Championships … but our big group of seven level threes were fantastic and cheered each other on.”
Once again it was on the vault where the club shone brightest.
Not long after club level six competitor Evie Simpson topped the field for the apparatus at the Country Championship, Sophie Dunbar picked herself up a blue ribbon finish in the level three field.
“The judges mentioned that our level three girls were the first group who came through the vault and all received scores above nine,” Godleman said.
“The girls have really worked hard on their vault recently so this was exciting to hear.
“We seem to have developed some consistency in vault. To see a few different competitors performing strongly, not just one or two, reflects really well on the club as a whole.
“The level four girls showed such consistency across their four apparatus scores and even in comparison to one another. It was awesome that they consistently got scores over eight.”
In the level three field Dunbar and Eve Twohill finished with blue ribbon overall results, while Roxy George and Alicia Nobles red overall.
It was a strong performance from the quartet, who all showed improved after their Country Championships campaign.
Emma Jones was the blue ribbon recipient in the level four Aspire group.
Sierra Hoolahan, Shayla Winwood-Smith, Heidi Twohill, Shanese Lane-Bergan, Ebony Pender and Isabel King all scored red ribbon finishes overall.
The level four field will contest their State Championships over September 9 and 10 before the level threes test themselves over October 21 and 22.
Both events will be held at the Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre.
The team will get a good opportunity to warm up with upcoming local competitions at Dubbo and Mudgee.
