Not a single top-eight seeded side remains in the annual four ball matchplay competition at the Bathurst Golf Club.
On Sunday Tony Forster and Fred Hennessy (9) go up against Ed Marvel and Ray Stapley (13) while Nick Winterton and Neville Jones (18) face Kevin Callaughan and Stephen Johnson (11).
Winterton and Jones knocked out second seeds Chris Boardman and Rod Dixon back in round two.
They go up against a duo who also caused an upset. Callaughan and Johnson booked their spot in the semis thanks to a win over the experienced pair of Danny Ross and Mick Locke (3).
Bathurst Golf Club general manager Brad Constable said there’s been some impressive performances over the past month.
“It just goes to show that it all comes down to how you play on the day,” he said.
“It was a big win for Kev and Stephen because Mick was the club champion and Danny was runner-up in the matchplay.
“Neville has been an early morning golfer so it would be quite exciting for him to be right up there in a competition like this.
“Ed Marvel and Ray Stapley are an interesting combination. Ed’s a new golfer who has played with the club for the last few years, while Ray’s club president and has played off a low number for a while now.”
Top seeds Bill Casey and Stuart Brown were knocked out in the second round by Kevin Burke and Shannon Ryan.
