The Bathurst Folk Club, with regular presenters Paul Kelly, Terry Fatseas and Jock and Ann Roxborough, presents a great mixture of folk tunes each Saturday while Sunday afternoons has traditionally been Come All Ye with Bruce Cameron, with a mix of modern and traditional folk.
Folk music can be somewhat of an acquired taste for many people but has a long history in Australia as many of our early settlers brought traditional music from their home countries including Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands and many Scandinavian and European regions.
Much of the early folk music was played on improvised instruments and tunes were rarely written down.
The early folk songs were often a reflection of people, the times and occasions including songs about bushrangers, the tough working life of settlers, daunting weather compared to the northern hemisphere and the discoveries made by those early immigrants of the land, aborigines and the bush.
Our two dedicated folk music programs follow all these themes and much more as folk music has become more refined and moved on with the times.
Roger Hargraves also continues the folk tradition with his music of the Celts each Sunday evening.
Roger’s program, The Connection, runs from 7pm to 8pm.
