Now the former Bathurst resident is a bronzed Australian.
On Friday morning (AEST) Henman and his fellow Wheelaroos got the better of Italy in a thrilling third-place play-off, winning 58-45 at Saint Orens to earn a bronze medal.
That the victory came on Henman’s birthday made it even more special.
“He turned 45 today and he held them to 45, what a birthday,” Brett’s father Paul Henman said.
“He’s happier than a pig in mud.”
It was a tight battle early in the bronze medal match, with Italians scoring in the opening minute and Australia finding a quick reply.
The Wheelaroos led by 11 at half-time and though Italy got within one of the lead in the 56th minute, Henman and his team-mates went on to post a 58-45 victory.
