These wonderful exhibitions include the touring exhibition Soft Core and three Hill End residency exhibitions by Rachel Milne, Todd Fuller and Jo Davenport.
The gallery will be closed from Monday, July 31 until Wednesday, September 27 for building works including lining, insulating and repainting the walls and ceiling and polishing the floors – which, after 10 years’ use, need a little TLC.
While the gallery will be closed, BRAG’s office remains open and staff can be contacted during business hours on 6333 6555.
BRAG will reopen with the 10th anniversary exhibition of the Bathurst Art Fair, a major selling show for regional artists. The art fair, an initiative of BRAGS (Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Society), will open on Thursday, September 28 at 6pm and will run over the October long weekend.
With more than 300 works to choose from, the Bathurst Art Fair is the perfect place to buy a great work of art by a local artist or to find a unique Christmas gift.
Additionally, you will be helping BRAGS raise money to buy works for the art gallery’s permanent collection.
Artists can download the entry form at www.bathurstart.com.au.
BRAG’s next major exhibition is The Unflinching Gaze: photo media and the male figure, opening on Saturday, October 14 at 6pm.
Drawn from Australian and international collections including the Art Gallery of NSW; the National Gallery of Australia; the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, New York; and the Byrd Hoffman Foundation, New York, this exhibition includes more than 200 photographs and videos by 62 artists and deals with how the male figure has been represented in photo media over 140 years.
Artists range from 19th century photographers Eadweard Muybridge and Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden to contemporary artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe.
This not-to-be-missed blockbuster exhibition is exclusive to Bathurst and has been curated by BRAG’s director Richard Perram.
