The Central West Food Rescue Forum will discuss the redistribution of unwanted food from businesses to community members in need.
“This is a rare opportunity for various community groups to meet with each other and share their knowledge in the hope of further collaboration,“ NetWaste project manager Sam Swain said.
“There really is a huge need for us to reduce our food waste while at the same time seeing those less fortunate members of the community receive what is, in many instances, good quality, healthy food.”
The forum will be held at the Environmental Learning Facility (ELF) at the Orange Showgrounds and is part of a current campaign to encourage businesses, individuals, growers and food manufacturers to donate their excess food for redistribution.
The Central West Food Rescue Campaign is a pilot project being funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority as part of its Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
“Bathurst’s Food Bank, Canowindra Food Basket and FoodCare Orange are among the local groups that could benefit greatly from a more co-ordinated approach to saving excess and unwanted food in this region,” Mr Swain said.
