His main concern is the state of the cemetery’s reflective pond, also referred to as a dam, on the corner of Bradwardine Road and the Mitchell Highway. 

Cr Aubin said it detracted from the avenue of Living Legend trees and all of the landscaping council had done on the corner to improve the entrance to the city from Orange.

“We did all that nice planting there that was going to flow up to the cemetery … but it’s just dirt there,” he said.

“I feel that council has spent quite a deal of money there and now it hasn’t really had that full flow on effect.

“I would really like to see Norwood come to the party and do some landscaping around that dam.”

Cr Aubin said Norwood Park told council last year that landscaping works would be undertaken in spring of that year, however nearly 12 months later nothing has been done. 

“I know we had a wet winter last year, but come spring they should have been right onto it because they had beautiful wet soil there,” he said.

He went on to say that the car dealerships opposite the cemetery had “greened up” their land and Norwood Park should follow suit. 

“It is very frustrating to see,” Cr Aubin said.

“It is one of those things that I did have on my pledge at the last election to see, some beautification to the entrances.

“Everyone is coming to the party, so I think it is time Norwood Park did its part.”

The Western Advocate has contacted Norwood Park for comment. 

In an article published in the Western Advocate on September 3, 2016, general manager Stephen Beer said landscaping works around the pond would occur when the weather was warmer. 

“We have to reduce the steepness to the bank and give a better line of sight to the water. We’re going to then mound the soil that comes out of here against the highway to try and block out the car yards and screen off the highway,” he said.

At the time, he imagined work would be underway before Christmas of that year.
