Hayville Cracker ($2.20 favourite) led from start to finish in a winning time of 26.16 seconds.
A chaotic and clustered start to the race took both inside starters, Arrogant Rosie and Miss Rascally, almost immediately out of the running.
Hayville Cracker and Angel Art ($4.50) gained a five length lead over the rest of the field before arriving at the halfway mark.
Angel Art was never far away from the leader but there was no catching Lisa Worthy’s Hayville Cracker.
The winning margin was two metres, with another eight metres back to Charlie Wren ($11.40).
“This dog was only given to us recently by a good friend of ours from Binda, Gary Williams. He’s selling up because of the way the industry’s going in NSW … and he’s moving over to Mandurah,” winning owner Dave Worthy said.
“This dog was ready to go. Gary’s been a good friend of ours for a long time and he said ‘I’ve got a good dog for you and Lisa’. He’d had him for 10 months, and had a few injuries, but said he was giving him to us in good order.
“We expected him to lead today. He sometimes gets tired towards the end of his races but he’s getting stronger with every race, and that’s not a bad time he’s run today. That was better than his performance trial win here a month ago. Gary reckons he’ll win a few races for us and I hope he’s right.”
