It’s a win he believes can come this Saturday night when the Mariners host Balmain Tigers FC at Mudgee’s Glen Willow Stadium.
While Balmain has just two victories from 24 rounds compared to the Mariners’ four, one of those came against Scimone’s side.
“It’s a bit of a grudge match. The last time we played them it was a bit of a boxing match and they belted us. They’ll want to beat us again and get on top of us on the ladder,” Scimone said.
“Balmain has been a bit of a pain in the backside for us the last few years, so I’m keen to get the win over them which will also help us in the club championship.
“It is a game I think we can win, but as I keep saying, the attitude needs to be right ... it’s Andrew’s [Fearnley, coach] and my challenge to get them fired up.
“We’ve only got a few games left, so we’ve got to give it everything we’ve got so we can finish on a high.”
Meanwhile, the Mariners’ women’s state league side will do battle with Mount Druitt at Lithgow’s Majorie Jackson Field on Sunday.
After a 3-0 win over Saint George last weekend, the Mariners are just one point outside the top four and are keen to continue their push for a place in the semi-finals.
In two prior meetings the Mariners have beaten the Rangers 9-1 and 2-1.
