Parade had the opportunity to attend the Vietnam Veterans Day service on Friday by the Carillon.
The weather was not ideal, with dark clouds looming, wind blowing fiercely and the rain falling off and on throughout the ceremony.
Despite the conditions, a healthy crowd of veterans, their families and other supporters stood there to commemorate the service seen in the Vietnam War.
Bathurst also held a second ceremony on Sunday in Vietnam Veterans Park.
It was good to see that people still make the effort to honour sacrifice, more than 60 years on.
As time goes on, veteran attendance will dwindle, but as long as their families remember them, the community will too.
Escape mission to visit friends
PARADE received a phone call on Sunday that she never expected to get.
It was mid-afternoon when the call came in from her neighbour, who sounded just as surprised as she was after receiving the news.
Parade’s dog was in their yard, spotted playing soccer with the neigbour’s two dogs.
Both parties had watched the friendship bloom between the three dogs for months, all of them hanging out by the fence for much of the day, putting their paws underneath it.
A hole had slowly started to form, but Parade never once thought it would be big enough for her 40 kilogram dog to squeeze underneath.
On Sunday, she very quickly realised how wrong she had been.
Neither Parade or her neighbour knew how long this play date had been going on for and the only indicator of it had been a little bit of playful barking.
When Parade went to collect her dog, it was very difficult to get her onto the leash as she was too interested in her four-legged friends.
Now she, her significant other and the neighbours are on the hunt for a solution to prevent this sneaky situation in the future.
Play dates will likely happen again, but they will be planned by the people, not the pooches.
