The popular elimination event at the Bathurst Golf Club reached its 10-man conclusion of Sunday, with Smail besting Bernard Woldhuis on the last hole.
“Jim played steady golf all day. The only hole where he was a bit shaky he was lucky enough that someone else had a worse hole,” Bathurst Golf Club professional Matt Barrett said.
“He was really happy to win it. He’s picked himself up a golf bag, perpetual trophy and vouchers. It’s become one of our most popular events on the club calendar.”
The event’s conclusion brought together the 10 club members who posted the four best scores based on their handicap: Smail, Woldhuis, Cameron Bull, Ray Curtis, Danny Ross, Darryn Bruce, Adam Powell, Dave Sams, Shannon Ryan and Kim Taylor.
Bull and Ryan were eliminated after finding the bunker and creek respectively on holes 10 and 11.
Taylor lost a chip-off on the following hole to be eliminated before Bruce’s tee shot on the 13th went wayward and sent him out of the competition.
Hole 14 saw the end of Sams who, after a good drive, pulled his second shot into the pine trees behind the 15th tee.
Powell was the next in trouble on the when his tee shot went onto the Blayney Road.
Curtis unfortunately hit his tee shot on 16 into bushes behind the 17th tee and was subsequently eliminated.
Ross just missed out on going to the final hole when Smail eliminated him.
