Having gotten the better of Bathurst Panthers for the first time this year last Sunday in the qualifying final – winning 14-6 – the Saints earned themselves a place in the major semi-final.
However, in order to become the first side to advance to the grand final, the Saints must do something no other team has managed in 2017.
They must beat Orange Hawks.
The Hawks finished the regular season as minor premiers with 15 wins and a draw. Two of those victories came against the Saints – a 10-6 result in round nine then a 18-14 effort in round 18.
“Both games have been really close and I think we were not far off getting the points. We just need to cut down on our mistakes and take our opportunities down the other end,” Armstrong said.
“The last time we played them we made a lot of mistakes. The first 15 minutes were outstanding, we led 10-0, but after that we just kept giving the ball back to them.
“From three kick-offs we gave the ball back to them, those sort of things are coach killers and we need to make sure we don’t do that same sort of thing this weekend.”
Sunday’s semi-final between St Pat’s and Hawks will kick-off at 10.30am at Wade Park.
