Introduction: Bob Triming. Lived in Bathurst since 1996 when I came to invest over $400,000 in a large hospitality business. An ex-business owner, attended majority Council General & Policy meetings for over 12 years. An ardent advocate for people with disability, the elderly & Bathurst as a whole. Achieved many changes and benefits by writing many submissions to council. Having broad experience council needs people like me who can debate, understand plans, listen & respond to rate payers to make well-reasoned & sensible decisions.

Popularly-elected mayor: I support a popularly elected Mayor referendum but only if it was attached to a council election to avoid a huge cost to ratepayers of a stand-alone referendum.
Water sale: Whilst I am against the sale, any one has a right to propose any matter with council and expect council and the Councillors to deliver due diligence and analysis if the council is provided with all the correct information and attend to it within the confines of the law to arrive at an informed decision preferred by rate payers.
Roundabout: I have already written in support of a roundabout. Having seen engineers reports detailing several recommendations against other forms of intersection alternatives, the engineers prefer only a roundabout. Funding should be found for preliminary works in the current budget, with the main works being funded from 2017-18 budget.
Australia Day: I recognise Australia Day as it has always been – a recognition of ALL Australians and the many cultures that form the Australian way of life. I note the support of many prominent Aboriginals who have recently stated their desire for the day to remain as is. NAIDOC week is already well supported by council and must continue.
TAFE building: It should be a multi purpose building for community use perhaps partially subsidised by a small heritage style accommodation development all of which should be with input from the Heritage Council. It needs to be fully accessible to all levels for those with disability as per current building standards. A section should be retained for a heritage display of the original use of the building.
Rates cap: For the past 12 years or so of attending Council general & Policy meetings I am aware council has always strived to restrict rates to the IPART cap and raise extra funds through securing different government funding and grants. It needs to be understood that the cap stands at around 1.8% whereas on average things like staff and maintenance costs relate to around an extra 4 to 5% per year. This is why Sports, Heritage and the 8 Billion dollar Disability tourism is so important to the Bathurst economy.
Christmas decorations: As publicised by our team, we want a Christmas Festival during the main shopping period. Proper decorations should adorn the streets and not just a few flags. Find an appropriate large tree and decorate. Businesses must do their part and decorate all their premises and not just leave it to council.
CCTV: Definitely. July 2013 I was one of 2 who spoke of the inaccuracies in the consultants CCTV report which were so outrageous that it caused a majority of councillors to reject CCTV. Our team leader Ian North has persisted with requests for funding for CCTV for years with little support from other councillors finally securing a compromise of a small amount of funding for businesses to install cameras. CCTV also needs to cover other major attractions such as Machattie Park, Kings Parade, Op Shop etc.
Demolition by neglect: Old Homes: NO. Council should not be able to tell owners of OLD properties what they can do with their property as opposed to Heritage Listed homes which would be subject to careful consideration after working with the owners and taking into account council and other legal requirements & policies to reach a financially sensible outcome.
Attendance: Approximately 9 Council general meetings and a similar number of Council Policy meetings (sometimes being 1 of only 3 members of the public in attendance at policy meetings). The same applies for the last 12 years.
