AT a time when nominees for Bathurst Regional Council are putting forward their signature policies and interests for examination by the local voting public, the Labor candidate Jess Jennings is noticeably quiet on his previously highly publicised proposal for an economic mega deal between Bathurst and a Chinese city of some three million persons.

Now, we have a letter in the Advocate (“Wasting money? I can only see constructive projects”, Wednesday, August 30) from Steve Howes, plainly an unabashed fan of the good doctor.
The letter refers to Dr Jennings’ “proposals for growing tourism and our economy”.
Is this a veiled reference to the China proposal, and does Mr Howes know something of which Bathurst citizens know little?
The question must be now asked - has Dr Jennings quietly shelved the China venture, a project in which he appears to have invested much time, money and credibility, or is it still simmering, on the back-burner, waiting for further airing after the elections?
It may also be of interest to the voting public of Bathurst to know the views held by the other candidates on Dr Jennings’ project, and the possible implications on national sovereignty.
