While 34 of the 40 candidates contesting the election will have “independent” printed beside their name on the ballot paper, the information sheets lodged with the NSW Electoral Commission tell a different story.

The Greens’ six-member ticket of John Fry, Cathie Hale, David Harvey, Emma Paterson, Michael Mullen and Elizabeth Barrett is running as a party-affiliated ticket and will have The Greens printed beside their name on the ballot paper.

Five more members of political parties will also appear on the ballot but voters will be given no indication of their affiliations.

Jess Jennings and Nick Packham are both members of the Australian Labor Party while David Veness is a member of the Nationals.

Steve Semmens and Alex Christian are both members of the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party.

In addition, two candidates – Mr Packham and Steve Ellery – ticked the box on the information sheet identifying themselves as property developers.

Mr Ellery also ticked the box that indicated he was a “close associate of a corporation that is a property developer”.

The information sheets also reveal the broad range of ages of candidates on the ballot paper.

The youngest candidate is Ms Paterson from The Greens, closely followed by Laura Cole. Both were born in 1995.

The most senior candidate is former NSW surveyor-general Don Grant, who also boasts the most qualifications with four masters and honours degrees.
