Bushfire season was brought forward by one month for the Chifley region (Bathurst, Oberon and Lithgow) to commence on September 1 due to dry conditions and predicted above average temperatures.
A free Get Ready event this Saturday, hosted by the NSW Rural Fire Service Bathurst Brigade, will offer a wealth of information and activities for the community.
Bathurst brigade community engagement officer Shane Thomas said this bushfire season was a concern for fire crews.
“It’ll be a hot, busy fire season. Everything’s so dry because we had a really dry winter,” he said.
“We only need warm conditions, a hot westerly wind and low humidity and an ignition and that’s our recipe for disaster.”
Find out more, meet the brigade’s firefighters and jump aboard a fire truck at Get Ready from 10am until 3pm this Saturday at the Adventure Playground.
