Held on Thursday at the school, and organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC), the day encouraged students to check in with their classmates to see if they were OK.
Year 10 student and SRC president Isaac Connor said as a group they decided a focus on mental health was important.
“We agreed on what we thought would bring light to this important day,” he said.
“We decided to do a poster so the whole school would know about today and be supportive of their friends and mental health and suicide prevention.”
SRC members from all student years at the school joined forces to make a large banner for the day.
During lunch break SRC members handed out bright yellow balloons and encouraged students to get involved by: asking if others were OK, listening to the answer, encouraging action and checking in with them as a follow-up on another day.
Kelso High School students are among a number of community members who featured in the Western Advocate’s R U OK ? Day awareness video. See below.
