The funny fashion faux pas captured at a Sydney wedding on the weekend has gone viral, entertaining people on social media around the world.

No doubt women could relate to the fear of turning up to a social occasion in the same dress as another guest.

Guests at Julia and Dominic Mammone's wedding on Saturday saw the amusing side of the dress code coincidence.

When guest Debbie Speranza posted the photo of herself and five guests wearing the same dress, she was unprepared for the reaction.

The grandmother, who works behind the counter at a Bowral butchery, was caught by surprise at the global entertainment value of the picture.

"Thank you very much for this publication and for giving happiness to the world," wrote one Facebook poster from Florida, while another in Pennsylvania posted: "I LOVE this!"

"This is really funny! Greetings from Germany," another poster commented.

Referring to an article on the BBC about the Sydney frock fiasco, Wendy Taylor said a similar dress had been seen doing the rounds at a wedding in Britain.

Mrs Speranza was recovering from the media attention on Wednesday, writing: "Ok so now this has all got a tad overwhelming for all of us and as happy as we are that its given a lot of people a much needed laugh in these times, it's also gone way past what we expected. So, thank you to all of those that saw the lighter side and for your kind words and media requests but I'm sorry it has to stop now."

Sharp-eyed observers noted that the six dresses were not exactly identical.

Two of the guests are wearing a dress from Portmans while four are wearing a $160 design from Forever New called the Debbie lace pencil dress.

Forever New describes the dress as "perfectly tailored to flatter and accentuate your figure" for "an entrance-worthy appearance".
