The ‘Golden Oldies’ competition will draw players from across the state, while the Central West Old Bulls side competes in familiar surrounds.
“The Central West Old Bulls is formed from players from Bathurst Bulldogs Old Bulls and the Orange Emulators, the Emus,” team manager Allen Spencer said.
“When it originally started Central West Old Bulls was the only side for the Central West, which is why it was called the Bulls being the name of the Central West representative side.”
While Spencer said some teams may just show up on the day, he expects around 12 outfits to be in action and anticipates they will contest four games each.
Normal union rules apply with some minor alterations, such as unlimited substitution and shorter playing time.
Over vigorous play is discouraged and at all times the emphasis is on playing for fun. As such, no victors will be crowned at Ashwood Park.
“Scores don’t matter at all, sure if you have a good run and you get a try well done, but we don’t worry at all about scores. We usually joke the games are 3-all draws.
“It’s an opportunity for old guys to get out there and have a run and enjoy their rugby.”
Spencer said there will be some familiar faces in action when play commences at 11am.
“We will have about five of the Bathurst Bulldogs guys that have come back to rugby in action, but as far as any of those top first class players, I don’t know. Glen Ella turned up out of the blue years ago and had a run, so you just never know who is going to turn up.”
