On Friday night when Manning was proven correct as Ameretto began her new season with a Group 3 victory, Bathurst owners Ryan and Tracey Grives could not have been happier.
With Manning in the gig, their Million Dollar Cam x Eyes Of Courage mare scorched home in the $30,000 Tailamade Lombo Pace (1,720 metres) to make it six consecutive wins.
The $1.10 favourite finished 2.9m clear of her nearest rival Just Rockon Bye ($9.30), with Carlas Pixel ($11.50) a further 4.2m back in third.
Her final quarter of the last mile was covered in 27.5 seconds for a 1:51.5 mile rate – a mark just a fraction outside a career best for the now six-year-old.
It took her earnings within reach of $344,000, the win number 22 of a consistently strong 54-start career for the mare who was purchased for $3,500.
Formerly trained and driven by Bathurst’s Ashlee Grives, Ameretto moved south to Manning’s Great Western stables in May.
Though she ran 10th in her first start for the new trainer, since then Ameretto has gone on to prove her quality as a star free for all mare.
“She’s a very easy horse to handle at home. It’s a pleasure to have her,” Manning said.
Ameretto’s winning streak also includes victory in the Group 3 Melton Cup and Group 3 He’s Watching.
