In mid-August, the Rugby Union Cricket Club discovered that a car had been deliberately reversed into one of the cricket nets at Brooke Moore Oval and then set on fire.
The blaze left the artificial turf pitch beneath it damaged beyond repair and littered with broken glass and oil.
Recently, Megan Fawkner, mother of player Declan Fawkner, 13, donated 20 square metres of new artificial turf to the club.
Club president Richard Newell said it would have taken the club’s volunteers a long time to save up the $900 that was required to replace the destroyed pitch.
Ms Fawkner said it was a pleasure for her business, Dejorja Boutique, to make the donation.
“My son was just devastated when he saw pictures of it [the damage] and couldn’t understand why someone would do it,” she said.
“I thought the best option was to put my hand in my pocket to help.
“My son has learnt to love cricket because of the club.”
