Bathurst’s Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to the campus around 5.30pm with reports a gas bottle on a barbecue had caught fire
Station Officer Sandy Collins said the barbecue was located in a courtyard area near one of the university’s main buildings.
“It had been a fire but the security guard had got onto it pretty quick and used the fire extinguisher,” he said.
“Five people were evacuated from the courtyard.”
Firefighters disconnected the gas bottle so it could not be used again.
