AYDEN Toovey is on the cusp of joining the ranks of the world’s elite road cyclists, but later this month he will put his track skills to the test once more.

The talented Mudgee cyclist has confirmed he will ride at the Bathurst Track Open, joining other big names such as Cam Scott and Stephen Cuff.
Toovey, who won the Bathurst Criterium earlier this year, has just returned from Europe where he rode for WorldTour team Trek Segafredo.
“It was pretty unreal, it’s something as a cyclist you dream of and hope to one day be part of a WorldTour team,” Toovey said.
“I got to ride with a few big time names – sprinters like [Elia] Viviani – it was a pretty unreal experience.
“The last day in France because we won the tour overall we got to ride at the front and swap off with Team Sky, it was unreal.”
Now back in Australia, Toovey will ride in the Melbourne to Warrnambool and Tour of Gippsland in the National Road Series before heading to Bathurst. He will join his brother Josh in contesting the men’s madison event.
“One thing I’ve always wanted to do is a madison with my brother. He hasn’t been riding at all lately, but we’re not concerned at all,” Toovey said.
“The last time I was on a track bike was two years ago, so it’s been a bit of a break. I’ll just have to make sure I chose the right gear.”
The Bathurst Track Open will be staged on October 28.
