These were usually put out on the Majestic and K-Tel labels and contained a mix of hits of the day for around $3 to $4, helping us all build up our record libraries.
I bet if you check your record collection you will come across one of these gems containing the original hits by the original artists.
If you can’t find a copy of one of these (because they are right at the back of the shed or your better half sold them all for $2 in a garage sale a few years back), don’t despair, as this Saturday you can relive those treasured memories in Retro Top 40 between 4pm and 6pm.
Tim Williams has dusted off his K-Tel record selector (yes, we all bought one of those two; Tim, in fact, has two) and we will get a blast of those amazing 70s hits we listened to as teens.
As a matter of fact, there are so many Ripsnorters and Bobby Dazzlers it will take two weeks to get through Tim’s playlist, so join him from 4pm this Saturday.
Sunday variety
FOR those seeking to widen their musical appreciation, Sunday has a real mixture of tastes, starting at 5pm with Full House with Vic Mally and a fantastic mix of jive, rockabilly, jazz and real rhythm and blues covering the classic tracks from the early 60s and 70s right through until today.
From 6pm, Eduardo and Marcela Paez have the Latin American program featuring the delightful sounds from South America, while at 7pm it’s time for the music of the Celts presented by Roger Hargraves, with a mix of classic and modern day folk favourites during The Connection.
From 8pm through until 10pm, Jeff Cox takes us back in time with Here It Comes Again - popular music of yesteryear.
All four programs are always entertaining and a little bit different from the norm.
Make the call
SATURDAY Night Jukebox this week will have Jeff Cox in the chair between 6pm and 10pm taking your requests for the hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Ron Gibson had 58 requests from all over last Saturday night, including quite a few from visitors camped up on Mount Panorama for the Great Race.
Phone direct to the studio on 6331 0092 after 6pm with your request(s). The only thing we ask is that it must be a charting hit in Australia in that jukebox era from the 50s to the 80s.
