Beth Mackinnon wasn’t in Bathurst late last month to hear that she had been drawn as the winner of a brand new Kia Picanto given away as part of the Bathurst Biz Month celebrations.
But when she got the phone call with the good news while she was in Bingara, west of Inverell, she had one reaction.
“I just said ‘wow’,” she remembered.
Ms Mackinnon, now back in Bathurst, was at Clancy Motors on Friday to pick up her new ride.
Also there was Janine Burt, co-owner of Gazza’s Takeaway, which supplied the winning ticket to Ms Mackinnon.
“We were listening [when the winning ticket was drawn live on air on 2BS]," she said.
“We were jumping up and down; you'd think we had won it. Everybody was looking at us.”
Anyone who made an eligible purchase at a participating local store went into the draw for the car, which was given away by Bathurst Broadcasters and the Western Advocate.
Ms Mackinnon said she didn’t realise her trip to Gazza’s last month would pay off so handsomely.
“I just went in and got a couple of things,” she said.
“They said ‘fill in the ticket’.
“Like you do, you don't think any more of these things. But it was pretty special for Gazza's, too.”
The Biz Month celebrations were co-ordinated by Bathurst Regional Council and its manager of economic development Steve Bowman.
