The National Servicemen’s Association of Australia NSW Branch Mid-State Sub Branch has plans to lay 100 pavers to commemorate members’ service in the Australian Defence Forces.
The pavers will go down near the Lone Pine tree (Pinus halepensis) planted in 2009 behind the war grave in the Bathurst Cemetery.
The tree came from a member of the Mid-State Sub Branch and was planted with the help of Bathurst Regional Council.
The Mid-State Sub Branch has received funding from the NSW Anzac Community Grants Program and council to do the ground work ready to lay the pavers and create edging around the area, according to spokesman James Dietrich.
He said members who have served in the Australian Defence Forces (Navy, Army, Air Force and Merchant Navy) or service corp (AACC or RAR) are invited to buy a paver and have it engraved with their name, services number, service they served with and their years served.
The cost is $40 for each of the pavers.
“The pavers will be laid in a random manner - not in services, but as they come out ready to be laid,” Mr Dietrich said.
“No rank will be displayed on pavers.”
Mr Dietrich said the Mid-State Sub Branch will not start to lay the pavers until there are more than 100 applications received and sent away for engraving.
