Hosts Mudgee were restricted to 76 runs batting first, Bathurst then chasing down that total without loss.
Given Bathurst has fielded two teams in this age division for 2017-18, it was a promising sign for Yellow.
“We fielded first and our bowlers executed well, we rolled them for 76,” Yellow co-coach Bill Hall said.
“It started with a run-out and that just triggered a flood of wickets. There was no stand out bowler, every just did their job well.”
While confident of victory at the change of innings, Hall stressed to his players the need to take a sensible approach to batting.
“We were confident of chasing that, but I’ve seen district games where five wickets have gone for three runs,” he said.
“Fortunately our openers Tim Currie and Angus Parsons got the runs without the loss of a wicket. They just waited for the right balls to hit and we placed a bit of an emphasis on singles and they worked the ball around well.”
Currie finished unbeaten on 39, while Parson’s scored 22 not out as Bathurst chased down the required total.
Meanwhile, the Bathurst Green under 14s side did it tougher in their season opener against Orange, going down by 35 runs.
Orange batted first and made 9-159, with Cooper Brien (3-17 off 6.2 overs), Sean Donato (2-23 off 10) and Tom Judge (2-16 off five) the best of the Bathurst attack. In the chase Cody Hall’s unbeaten 40 was the highlight.
