Charges against Taylar Gregory Noonan - a nephew of the 48-year-old victim - were mentioned briefly in Bathurst Local Court on Monday, with magistrate Michael Allen refusing bail.
Noonan was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with attempt to murder after being arrested by police at Raymond Terrace police station in the days after the alleged assault.
The victim, found semi-conscious by his wife at their Wellington Street home was treated at the scene by paramedics for head, abdomen and leg injuries.
He was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital before being flown to Westmead Hospital.
The man was placed in an induced coma and intubated as a result of his injuries.
Police will allege the victim’s wife left their home around 3pm on Wednesday, August 2 and returned about 5.30pm to find her husband critically injured and the front of the property smashed up.
Police from Chifley local area command launched an investigation, with Noonan arrested just days later.
Police will allege the assault was a targeted attack stemming from a conflict between the parties.
Noonan is facing charges of driving a conveyance taken without consent of owner; dishonestly obtaining property by deception; shoplifting; possessing a prohibited drug; entering enclosed lands without lawful excuse; intimidating a police officer in the execution of his duty; and causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.
The matter will be back before the local court on November 27.
