Local hopefuls St Pat’s will play undefeated competition leaders Orange Hawks at 10am, as the second-place team looks to cement its position in the top four.
The blue and whites currently sit second on the competition but St Pat’s footballer Michelle Somers said the team is quietly confident of getting the win against Hawks.
“The girls have been improving every week and training really hard,” she said.
“It’s been a pretty close competition.
“It’s the last round, so everyone is vying for finals. It’s a tight competition and every team is improving every week.”
St Pat’s versus Hawks will be followed up by Oberon-Nyngan versus Dubbo Westside at 10.30am.
St Pat’s will then have its second game of the day against Westside at 11.15am, with Hawks versus Oberon-Nyngan the final game of the day at 11.45am.
Hawks, who have a point differential of plus 98 and are four points clear of St Pat’s, are almost untouchable in first place.
The minor premiership seems certain for the Hawks, unless there is an unlikely collapse by the Orange girls in their final two games.
Somers said she has enjoyed making the switch from league tag to tackle rugby league.
“It’s a very different game. I haven’t played tackle since my university days,” she said.
“It takes bit of getting use to.
“Meredith Jones has been playing really well and so has Amy Copping. She’s been one of our main tacklers and runners.
“Grace Mooney and Alice Woods have also been playing well.”
Meredith Jones currently leads with the way in the try scoring department, having scored a competition-high eight four-pointers and 32 points (second-best in the competition).
