The refurbishments include new carpet, updated electrical fixtures, new shelving and furniture and a new floor layout.
Bathurst Library manager Patou Clerc believes the new design will refresh the library with a more welcoming environment.
“It’s going to look beautiful,” Ms Clerc said.
The flexibility of floor space with the new floor layouts will produce a creative space to foster research and imagination.
There will be more interactive spaces dedicated to technology for library goers to use, such as touch screens and touch table tops.
“We want to provide more technology so we can bridge the digital-literacy gap,” Ms Clerc said.
The new shelving will improve access and usage by showcasing the libraries collections, including history and kid zones.
While the library is under refurbishment there will be a pop-up library held at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum in the exhibition room where there will be a reduced collection of the library’s books, magazines and DVDs.
They will be following the museum’s opening and closing hours and the librarians will still be there to help out with any inquiries you may have.
“A lot of our customers come to use the computers and printers so we are working on making these available at the visitors centre and the museum,” Ms Clerc said.
The library is also working on getting a permit to set up a pop-up library out the front of the building on Keppel Street.
They will still be receiving new books to add to their collection and to showcase they are “more than just books” they will also be providing e-books, e-magazines and more.
As this period is the least busy for library visits and for loans and returns it was decided this was the perfect time for the refurbishment.
“The whole thing will be amazing, with fresh colours, new and comfy couches, and I just can’t wait to open next year with a bang,” Ms Clerc said.
