The six friends, who wish to remain anonymous, are all aged in their 20s and only began entering the jackpot together earlier this year.

Upon learning of his new fortune, the group's leader told Powerball, "Oh my god! That's mad! Sweet!"

"How do I get it?" he then asked.

They held the only division one winning entry in the draw, meaning each of them will deposit $2.73 million into their bank accounts after they've divvied up the winnings.

He is keen to quit his job, and let his mates know they can follow suit.

"Bugger going back to work," he said.

He joked that they all worked hard, "except for one of us".

Tasked with informing his friends of the win, he said they might have a hard time accepting it as the truth.

"I don't think they'll believe me. Every time I usually tell them, 'Boys, we've lost again.'

"We're all going to quit at the same time, I'm never going to work again," he said.

He won't abandon all his responsibilities though - he plans to use some of the money to pay off his house.
