The 19^th annual National Cool Climate Wine Show, which was held at Bathurst Showground this week, attracted 802 entries from across Australia.

A record number of golds medals (41) were awarded at the show, along with 58 silver and 224 bronze.

Among the Bathurst vignerons to be awarded medals were Vale Creek Wines, 3 Views Vineyard and Renzaglia Wines

Ruth Anderson from 3 Views Vineyard was among those to celebrate her success on Friday.

Her 2013 Chardonnay received a silver medal, and judges revealed it was just one point off having been awarded a gold.

While her 2009 Chardonnay also received a very high-scoring bronze medal, an outcome she confessed she was a little surprised in receiving.

“I thought I’ll put it in for a bit of fun to see how they score it,” Ms Anderson said.

Wines from 3 Views Vineyard have received a number medals over the years and she said the show was a good learning experience.

“It just helps to make it worthwhile and it will help with the marketing,” she said.

Also winning two medals at the show was Vale Creek Wines, with a silver for the 2017 Pinot Grigio and a bronze for the 2015 Dolcetto.

Owner Tony Hatch specialises in Italian varieties and was pleased his were successful in the show.

“There’s a gradual increase in public awareness and acceptance of the wonderful Italian varietals,” he said.

“It [the wine show] provides a benchmark and I believe it increases awareness of Bathurst as a serious wine making region.”

While the 2016 Mount Panorama Estate Shiraz from Renzaglia Wines scored a bronze medal at the show.

Owner Mark Renzaglia has been entering wines since the show first begun 19 years ago.

“You feel like you’re on the right track which is really important for promoting and marketing your wines,” he said.

“The wine industry is always evolving, there are new ideas and approaches to wine making and that [the show] helps with benchmarking.”
