Moore, one of Queensland's favourite sons, got the farewell he deserved on Saturday evening as the Wallabies proved the doubters wrong by conjuring up a dogged 23-18 win over the All Blacks.

After Sam Cane knocked on and referee Wayne Barnes blew full-time on a gripping trans-Tasman Test, Moore raised his fists in the air, grabbed the nearest player he could, Tom Robertson, and gave him a big hug.

From 30 Tests against the Kiwis, Saturday's win was Moore's sixth victory over Australia's arch rivals and he was soaking up every moment after his last Test on home soil.

"The effort was terrific ??? that's one of the better performances I've been a part of," Moore said. "For this group particularly, it's a really important result. We've been working towards it, we've been talking a lot about the improvements and at some point you have to get an outcome. For this group, [Saturday] was that.

"Having my family there was pretty special. It was just sort of by luck that it was in Brisbane and my kids were all able to be there. You look back on that I suppose down the track and to have all my kids up there on the stage ??? that'll be pretty special to look back on."

Unlike Dunedin, where Moore watched from the sidelines after starting the match, the former Wallabies captain was on the field in the dying stages as the All Blacks mounted an attacking raid inside Australian territory.

So often the All Blacks manage to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat but this time it was a different story as the Wallabies showed their defensive improvements since a forgettable night in Sydney two months ago.

"It was exactly like the Dunedin game," Moore said. "They had that kick-off there probably around the same time and I thought Lukhan [Tui] just stepped up and caught it with real authority.

"That's probably a bit of a shift from the Dunedin scenario. Guys were a bit unclear about what was going on and he knew his job there. We spoke about it and he went in and did it. That's a growth area to start with and I thought our defence right through the game was pretty good. These kind of wins are always built on defence.

"We just talked about believing, just staying in the moment."

Despite retiring from Test rugby at the end of the year, Moore will still be a valuable asset to the Wallabies on their end of season tour to Japan and Europe.

With Tatafu Polota-Nau cemented as the team's starting hooker, Jordan Uelese, Tolu Latu and Folau Faingaa are the next generation in Michael Cheika's eyes.

Moore wants to continue his leadership role within the group and felt there were more leaders making themselves seen than in previous Wallabies teams.

"[I want to] just play any role that's required of me, continue to work with the young players and grow the leadership group," Moore said. "Something that has been pleasing for me is the growth of the leaders in the team. I don't think we've had that in this team for a number of years.

"There's five, six, seven players now that are a part of that leadership group and having real input and driving the standards, driving the outcomes. It's really powerful when that happens and I've really seen that grow in the last period of time.

"Maybe 12 months ago it was myself and Hoops who were probably doing a lot of the stuff."
