BATHURST may have walked off the turf at The Scots School on Sunday as victor in its Western Zone Premier League match against Orange, but the mood of skipper Jameel Qureshi was anything but jubilant.

Qureshi labelled the effort of his side “pathetic and embarrassing” as they scraped home by a wicket chasing 125 for victory.
It took Wayne Sellers (19 not out) and Ben Parsons (14 not out) to get Bathurst over the line following a batting collapse which saw the hosts lose 8-42.
“I am cranky. We didn’t deserve to win it. I’m embarrassed that we did win it,” Qureshi said.
“It was just not good enough. We were 9-98, Benny Parsons and Wayne Sellers go us home, but we were just reckless.
“We took the foot off the accelerator and just relaxing – you can’t do it. We had a chat after the game about how that’s not good enough, we just played poor shots.
“If we want to do any damage in the competition, we have to lift our games up, that’s for sure.”
Before a below-par performance with the bat, Bathurst had made a solid start to match which doubled as the opening round of the Presidents Cup.
Michael Hanley (31) and Nathan Gander (20) had Orange travelling well at 1-65, but the next nine wickets fell for the addition of just 59 runs. The visitors were all out for 124 in the 46th over.
Bathurst’s attack shared the wickets, Nic Broes the most successful with 3-18 off 6.3 overs, while Sam Macpherson, Connor Slattery and Parsons each snared two victims.
But Bathurst’s effort with the bat was less impressive.
“We bowled really well and fielded really well, I can’t fault that, but our batting was poor. I was very cranky, that’s for sure, I was sitting by myself,” Quershi said.
“We couldn’t have batted any worse than what we did.
“Well, Benny Parsons and Wayne did a great job – 10 out of 10. Connor Slattery [23] batted well too … but it shouldn’t be falling on those guys, the guys at the top who get starts need to go on with it. It was really disappointing.”
