An application to build the $145 million project is currently being considered by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The project would see an estimated 397,576 photovoltaic panels, each measuring approximately two metres by one metre, installed on a 203 hectare block of land south-east of Bathurst.

Construction is expected to take around 12 months, with 100 full-time workers needed during this period.

While some jobs on offer will be for “highly skilled” trades, Mr Ibrahim said he expects local people will also find work.

“Some of it is specialised work, but there is some requirement for local labour,” he said.

Trades such as electricians, civil works, assembly, fencing, cable running and transport will also be required during construction.

Mr Ibrahim said he expects Bathurst’s accommodation, retail, cafes and restaurants to see an increase in business thanks to the project.

Once complete, there will be employment opportunities for five to 10 people in long-term positions.

Mr Ibrahim acknowledged there had been some negative reactions from some people about the proposed development.

“We’ve had more people in support than against it,” he said.
