WELL, I think Cr Jess Jennings’ pre-election thought bubble of a green belt from Gormans Hill to Eglinton has absolutely no chance of gaining momentum if the repair cost for the small washaway at the back of the showground is any indication.

Unbelievably, that project is expected to exceed $500,000.
So just imagine 10 kilometres of green space getting washed away each flood. The repair cost could be tens of millions of dollars based on this repair example.
I'm still astounded that Bathurst Regional Council accepted one quotation for $129,000 to repair the damaged walkway but has now accepted a variation of $369,710.00.
That's 2.86 times the original contract to complete the job, with little or no explanation for the almost 300 per cent increase in the contract price from council.
Worse still, the additional $369,710.00 cost, on top of the original $129,000, is also "subject to provisional items and variations".
So who knows what the final cost will be? Ah well, it's only ratepayers’ money.
Thankfully, it’s not a new fencing folly in the west
WINDRADYNE residents have been asking plenty of questions since the vacant land adjacent to Westpoint Shopping Centre was barricaded off prior to the start of the long-awaited redevelopment.
There have been plenty of wags offering suggestions about the purpose of the fencing and many of them have questioned if the Bathurst Kangaroo Project has a new site to waste more ratepayers’ money.
Thankfully not!
It’s time to make a clean start by removing graffiti
ROTARY clubs in Bathurst have long contributed to our community.
This Sunday will be no exception when Graffiti Removal Day is held.
If some graffiti has appeared within your neighbourhood, please nominate the site ASAP on 1300 665 310 or visit graffitiremovalday.org.au.
I'm sure Cr Bobby Bourke, who is not a Rotarian but is an anti-graffiti warrior, will be helping out!
Don’t forget the economic benefits for Newcastle
MAYOR Graeme Hanger has copped a bit of flak from unhappy Newcastle residents regarding his comments reported in the Newcastle Herald about the benefits of the upcoming Coates Hire Newcastle 500 Supercars race.
While the correspondents correctly point out that Mount Panorama is just out of our city and thus the inconvenience for residents is limited, they conveniently overlook the expected economic benefit promoted by Cr Hanger.
While I'm not a fan of "put up, pull down" street circuits, I hope Newcastle establishes itself as the genuine end-of-season finale that Sydney Olympic Park could never achieve.
